It is every student's responsibility to review the Student Manual. Be especially aware of recent changes to the academic honesty policy, which addresses AI as it relates to academic integrity and plagarism.
Each instructor, class, and even individual assignments, may have their own guidelines regarding the use or prohibition of AI tools. Just as it is your responsibility to know the university policies regarding AI use, it is your responsibility to follow guidelines provided by each instructor. Students bear the burden of proof that any work they submit is their own.
Librarians have experience researching & evaluating resources and may provide citation help as needed. Library staff are available to support your learning journey
in-person at the research desk
via the online chat feature on our webpages
over the phone or by email
via Compass appointments

The Mortensen Research & Instruction team offers an AI Literacy @ UHart session to all sections of first-year US 150 classes. This session is a broad introduction to the possible uses of AI for students at the University of Hartford. Students are encouraged to seek guidance from librarians when confirming reliable source material. It introduces evolving standards for citation of AI outputs and other means of acknowledgment of AI use. The class also introduces the concept of prompt engineering to arrive at the best results.
While we discuss different ways to use AI and have examples from certain tools, neither the university nor the library, endorses any specific tools or uses of AI. Rather we aim to encourage dialogue and ethical interaction with an emerging and constantly evolving information medium.
