Allen Library Course Reserves

What are Course Reserves?

The Allen Library maintains a Course Reserves collection for Hartt courses and some non-Hartt University courses. Faculty can place course materials on reserve at the Allen Library circulation desk, and students can use those materials in Allen for four hours at a time. This helps ensure more equitable access for all students in the class.

Materials include CDs, DVDs, scores, books, and videocassettes that are part of our regular collection, as well as materials owned by the instructor of the course (Personal Copies).

How can I use reserves?

First, select your class from the left-hand navigation on this page, then find the items you need. If there is an e-book available, click the link to access it. If not, locate the call number for the item you need.

When you know the call number of the desired item, bring that to the circulation desk along with your University ID, and we will retrieve the reserve items for you. A staff member can assist if you need help using this list.

How can I request reserves for my class?

To submit a request electronically, please download our Reserves Form (fillable PDF), fill it out, and email it as an attachment to Mike Anderson. Requests will be processed as quickly as possible in the order in which they are received. Requests should be submitted at least two weeks prior to when items will be needed for class use. Faculty will be asked to pick up personal copies at the end of the semester.

Courses with materials mainly from Mortensen Library should request those reserves at the Mortensen Library Circulation Department (860.768.4264).
