The Libraries are open!
The libraries and book drop are available through the January break! See our hours for details. (Student access is limited to those who have already received campus access approval.)
We have extended due dates and waived fines for most materials borrowed during the Spring and Fall 2020 semesters. Log into your account to see your checkouts and due dates, or to renew materials. If you no longer need your items, please return them in person at the library, or contact us to make alternate arrangements.
If you're studying or working remotely:
This guide provides resources to start learning about Black music and musicians and incorporating them into performance, teaching, and scholarship.
The musical world is incredibly diverse, and that diversity simply cannot be represented in a single guide! Therefore, this guides focuses primarily on Black music and musicians in Western art music. It does not cover the contributions of Black musicians in music theatre, jazz, folk, gospel, or popular music, nor the music/musicians of other races and ethnicities. Ask a librarian for help finding resources on these and other topics.
Additionally, all our guides are works in progress! We are still adding more resources and creating new guides on more topics. If you know of a resource that should be included in this guide, please tell us!
Navigate the guide via the tabs at the top of the page, or use the links in the Table of Contents below to get started.
