About This Guide

Black musiciansThis guide provides resources for learning about Black music and musicians and incorporating them into performance, teaching, and scholarship.

The musical world is incredibly diverse, and that diversity simply cannot be represented in a single guide. Therefore, this guides focuses primarily on Black music and musicians in Western art music. It does not cover the contributions of Black musicians in music theatre, jazz, folk, gospel, or popular music, nor the music/musicians of other races and ethnicities. Ask a librarian for help finding resources on these and other topics.
